Hi there!
I'm a trained zoologist, specialising in marine life, and enjoy guiding at sea! I work full time for Naturetrek, the UK's leading wildlife tour operator, at their HQ in Hampshire. I lead private wildlife cruises around the world (the Arctic, Antarctica, Azores, Indonesia, Scotland, Mexico and the Maldives) and whether I'm searching for whales, eagles or Komodo Dragons, I'm happiest on the bow of a boat with a pair of binoculars in my hand finding things for my clients!
Background
I studied at Newcastle University, where I was also the President of the university's Zoological Society. After graduating, I lived in British Columbia (Canada), working as a wildlife rehabilitator, caring for black bears, coyotes, river otters and raccoons on a daily basis. When I wasn't providing medical care to injured wildlife I could be found hiking in the mountains, photographing wildlife, howling with wolves and avoiding bears (usually successfully).
On my return to the UK, I moved to the Scottish Hebrides and spent three years working at sea as a wildlife guide, finding whales, otters, dolphins and eagles for my guests on a daily basis! I also spent two 6-month seasons posted on a ship in the North Sea, working as the Senior Wildlife Officer, collecting sightings data on cetaceans and delivering lectures to guests.
Always keen to be involved with media, I've presented on both live radio and TV, have worked as a guide for Ray Mears, TV film crews and on the BBC's 'Atlantic' series and 'The One Show'.
See my last 10 years in 100 seconds (sound on!)
